Nickel and diming passengers for what were once free in-board services is pretty typical for the airlines today.

But the practice reached a new low in many traveler's minds when Florida-based Spirit Airlines announced that it was charging passengers $45 for every piece of carry on luggage — not the ones you checked in, but the ones you carried aboard to avoid paying for the bags you wanted to check in.

In essence, Spirit is charging passengers for all baggage.
The announcement had many calling Spirit the "Rip Off" airline.

Like King Gillette's famous business motto, give the razor away but charge for the blade, the airlines say they work hard to keep prices as low as possible, but at the same time, charge for everything else, like second bags, food, drinks and in many instances pillows and blankets.

But Ray LaHood, U.S. Transportation Secretary, called Spirit's action "outrageous" and "ridiculous." He went to far as to say the airlines doesn't care about its passengers.
It could be a case of airline hubris in their madcap chase for revenue. However Spirit's chief Ben Baldanza justifies the charge by saying that carry on luggage is the number one reason for departure delays and that additional revenue was not the motivator behind his decision
Montgomery County airport shuttles operate from Montgomery County airport to any number of hotels within the metro area. There are various options to choose from including car rentals, limousine services and shuttle vans. The underground train system, Metro, connects to the airport as well although the running train schedule varies depending on what day and what time you are traveling.

If you're new to the city, it would be better if you book your tickets in advance. Otherwise it will be difficult for you to find a shuttle service at that time. When you are booking a ticket online just tell them date and time of flight. Also mention the Airline, flight number and type. Also mention number of passengers. If you are traveling with children use companies child safety seats. You can also book a roundtrip service, where you have to give both departure and arrival details from the airport. Always make sure you give the correct date and timings of your flight schedule.

A Montgomery County airport shuttle and you can save cash on when traveling on Southwestern Airlines the discount airline operating out of BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport

Source: http://www.goarticles.com/cgi-bin/showa.cgi?C=1389929

=========
I started this blog to offer it for rent to any Montgomery County Taxi Service or Owner Operator seeking to cash in on the lucrative transportation to and from BWI and other airports. Sadly there has been no taxi company nor owner operator interested in getting this top ranked spot in Google and have it funnel business to their cell phone.

In lieu of a taxi company contract to have this entire top ranked website devoted exclusively to their service, I'm shifting gears to offer this valuable search engine real estate to an airport shuttle company OR limousine company. The Rent on this blog is very affordable: $30 per month and it's yours for the month. No annual contract, just try it out; if you turn a profit (meaning you get more income from extra airport runs than the advertising costs you) keep it going from month to month. If you do not get enough extra work as a result of having the ENTIRE WEB SITE advertising ONLY your company... just end the month to month lease.

This is not something you sign up for, do not understand, wonder if it's going to work type advertising venture.

Rent on this blog is $30 for one month or a dollar a day. If you turn a profit, keep it. Gas prices have fallen, all it would take is one airport run (that you'd otherwise not have gotten)to break even and a second to turn a profit.

How would this work?

You pay for one month $30 (credit card is preferred but you can mail a check as well)
I change all the contact information to have YOUR company's details, the PHONE NUMBER of your choice and let it ride... hell I'll even forward the emails to you.

Why is this so cheap?

I've got 76 blogs, all in top spots in Google (that is my business, it's what I do all day, every day)The company I made this blog for didn't want it (I'd already made them a half dozen websites that fill multiple top spots in Google, often taking up 4 or more of 10 possible Google listings)...

So he didn't want it, what am I going to do now? I'm certainly NOT going to throw away a top spot in Google... so it's up for rent.

no fuss
no muss (not sure what that term really means...)

Call David Bruce at 240 315-1515 or email davidbrucejr@frederickwebpromotions.comDavid Bruce Jrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11541537639894691475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4428688840451251921.post-44838410424724397682008-12-02T02:32:00.001-05:002009-12-05T22:01:23.883-05:00Brit pays $4 317.58 for a cab ride

740 mile taxi cab ride - only cost the guy $4300

I'll bet not a single Montgomery County Maryland taxi driver has EVER gotten a fare this big.

Well, maybe some lucky cab driver made a buck or two back in September 11, 2001 when the airlines got shut down.
I drove a super shuttle out of Baltimore not long after 911 and heard stories of people stuck in Baltimore and needed to get to another part of the country, don't think the fare was that high though!

I got this story from an English Newspaper online:
http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?Cabbys_%A32,000_fare_from_UK_to_Germany&in_article_id=339298&in_page_id=34

Cabby's £2,000 fare from UK to Germany
Sunday, October 5, 2008

A cab driver did a double-take when a customer asked to be driven 1,200km (740 miles) from Portsmouth to Munich.

Though at first he thought it must be a joke, Mick Hogan agreed to take the passenger in his 30s on the 17-hour trip – at a cost of £1,950.

The unfortunate guy had missed his flight, explaining he had to get to the Munich beer fest as soon as possible as he had missed a flight for his friend's stag night.

So this guy went from Portsmouth England, under the English Channel via the Chunnel (tunnel that goes from the Briton to France), through France to end up in Germany.
Naturally, this uncomfortable reality has begun shaping our vehicle purchases."

This is the opening line from a website ranked highest in Google for "most fuel efficient cars in usa"

http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/list/top10/125477/article.html

Top 10 Most Fuel-Efficient Sedans of 2008
By Warren Clarke, Automotive Content Editor

With the bulk of Taxi cab driver income coming from runs to BWI airport, one would think that cab companies would be racing to purchase fuel efficient cars...

Using EPA's combined fuel economy formula: 55 percent of city mpg rating plus 45 percent of highway mpg rating, Edmunds.com rated the following cars this way:

#10 Kia Rio — 25/35*

#9 Nissan Versa — 27/33*

#8 Honda Civic — 25/36*

#7 Toyota Corolla — 28/37

#6 Honda Fit — 28/34

#5 Toyota Yaris — 29/36

#4 Toyota Camry Hybrid — 33/34*

#3 Nissan Altima Hybrid — 35/33*

#2 Honda Civic Hybrid — 40/45*

#1 Toyota Prius — 48/45*

I'm guessing if it gets real, REAL cold this winter and heating oil prices drive up the price of gasoline... Maryland Cab companies that make BWI airport runs as their bread n butter (cash cow) will run out and buy some Toyota Prius's and paint them yellow!

(wondering what the plural of Prius is??? Prii ??)

In last month's edition of http://frederickchristian.com I saw a 'General Interest' page touting this:

Smart ForTwo

"Smart ForTwo is hte tiniest car sold in the U.S."

"Detroit's Penske Automotive Group is offering the French-made Smart ForTwo car marketed by Daimler Chrysler. It's a rear engine two seat model that is less than 9 feet long. Two of them could fit into a parallel parking spot, making it the tiniest car sold in the USA"

This is very unlikely to be used as a Cab... inside room/ trunk space requirements considered... but let the price of gas go up to $6 and $7 a gallon and I'll bet that will get re-thought!

In the taxi industry, it used to be difficult to keep conscientious employees.

Think about YOUR industry, is it hard to keep motivated workers? Especially if we're talking about the ranks of the lower salaried employees!

That tide is now changing!

More and more workers are hunting for a part time job that fits their schedule.

What better choice of part time work is there if you don't have to wait two weeks to draw a check!

If you drive a cab, like delivering pizza, you get CASH at the end of your work day... puch out/ go home with *foldin* money in your pocket!

Cab companies in both Montgomery County and Frederick County are no longer at the mercy of who ever walks in their door looking for a job.

Look at the industry this way:

If you (the cab company) don't have too many people willing to (and qualified to) drive a taxi, you're basically STUCK WITH what ever shmucks you can get.

NOW... Cab companies, especially taxi companies that specialize in Airport Transportation can take their pick of a much better pool of potential employees.

See that?
